Windows Installer 2.0 for 9x

Description:

The Microsoft® Windows® Installer is an application installation and configuration service. Instmsi.exe is the redistributable package for installing or upgrading Windows Installer.

Windows Installer is a component of the Windows 2000 operating system and that simplifies the application installation process.

Windows Installer manages the installation and removal of applications by applying a set of centrally defined setup rules during the installation process. These setup rules define the installation and configuration of the installed application. In addition, you use this service to modify, repair, or remove an existing application. The Windows Installer technology consists of the Windows Installer service for the Windows operating systems and the package (.msi) file format used to hold information regarding the application setup and installations.

Windows Installer is not only an installation program; it is also an extensible software management system. Windows Installer manages the installation, addition, and deletion of software components, monitors file resiliency, and maintains basic disaster recovery by way of rollbacks. Additionally, Windows Installer supports installing and running software from multiple sources, and can be customized by developers that want to install custom applications.

For Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, see Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000. Windows XP contains Windows Installer 2.0 and therefore can't be installed or upgraded by this redistributable.

Pop your XP install disc in and reboot. Let it do its thing until it asks you what you want to do. Choose R to repair and it will ask you which path to repair. CHoose admin and it will do it's thing from there. I had the same problem with a Logitech joystick uninstallitation that removed files it shouldnt have.

Hi there! I don't know if this is the right place to mention that, but I have a serious problem. I have Windows XP Professional and because I trust myself that much and I needed to remove useless or harmful staff from my pc, I was searching and deleting staff I considered useless. So I might have also deleted something related to the windows installer and so I cannot use it. I 've been searching for ages to find it in the internet but I can only find versions for up to windows 2000. Everywhere they say that windows installer is included in Windows XP. So... WHAT CAN I DO ???
